Name Popularity
Names that are
currently very trendy are likely to go out of style. Names usually
follow fashion and cycles of popularity. The exception are those
extremely common names that have always been popular.
Unfortunately there’s no way of telling if your baby's name will
sound as good in fifty years as it does today. A name that is currently
very popular will probably be borne by several children in the same
class at school. It is probably best to avoid the top ten names.
It can cause some difficulties for your child to find that there are
three or more children in the same class with the identical name.
Some parents look for rare names to give their child more distinction,
while still others try to find a name that is popular, but not too
trendy.
Meaning of the name
It’s important to choose a name with a positive meaning since it
will sometimes be associated with your child. No one is likely to
treat your child differently because their name means
“angel” but it is lovely to know that your
child's name has such a pleasant origin. Choose meanings that are
associated with good qualities and desirable traits that you hope your
child will possess. You can choose meanings that are significant and
pleasant to you, for any reason. If your child finds out someday
that their name means “monkey-like” they will not be amused.
